What The F*** Should I Do With A Bodysuit: Part 3

What The F*** Should I Do With A Bodysuit: Part 3

The idea for this blogpost is older than the blog itself: there was a bunch of things I had wanted to write about for a while and in they end, they became the first entries on my brand new blog. But not this one. It wasn’t about a bodysuit then, but about a more general idea: the return if the vampy side of the nineties.

It’s no news to anyone that the nineties are back – slip dresses, overlong sleeves, Dr Martens, chokers, camisoles, t-shirts under camisoles, t-shirts under slip dresses… All the grunge-y stuff has returned. But it’s my theory that the glamorous nineties have been creeping back as well, although not as noticeably.

If you have trouble visualising what I mean, just think of an early nineties Madonna video: the black lace and tailoring of Vogue, the corset-bodysuit of Erotica, the patent leather of Human Nature. Black and white, underwear as outerwear, glossy red lips, short slicked-back hair and heaps of attitude. In case you need somewhat less attitude, focus on Linda Evangelista in a Little Black Dress or a black pullover.

So I did a photo shoot – more than 1,5 years ago – inspired by this look and Helmut Newton, but it turned into something too racy for the blog. This time around I tried to maintain the vibe, but execute it in a more accessible way. Sure, I would still most likely put trousers on in real life, but at least most of my body is covered. Sort of.

I have worn this Crystal Rabbit body suit many times: with high-waisted jeans, with structured shorts and black tights, under a floor-length black lace gown. As soon as I find a pair of good black trousers, I’ll wear it with those as well. If more modesty is required, I’d add a double-breasted jacket (pinstripe would be great!). And imagine the same bodysuit in white, under a smocking? Madonna would be jealous.

If you are interested in the other two parts in this series, you can find the first here and the second there.

This is my favourite look of all the bodysuit posts-and very Marlene Dietrich if I may say so. I rather live the idea of a bodysuit with high waisted not too fitted jeans. I am quite sure this will be matched with a velvet black blazer and high heels this Autumn- not remotely 90s…but fun.

Your bodysuit-jeans-blazer look sounds great, you should definitely try it out. And comparisons to Marlene Dietrich are not only allowed, but encouraged!
