Love Stories Lingerie: A Bra Solution

Love Stories Lingerie: A Bra Solution

Considering that I’m obsessed with an extremely wide variety of things – books, skincare, impractical dresses, strange perfumes, stews, Persia, stickers, biathlon and Tallinn sea views, to name a few – it’s a small miracle that I don’t really care about lingerie. This is partly because I’m small-chested and can afford not to care. It is also, however, because lingerie brands call themselves Love Stories and seem to speak a language I don’t really comprehend.

Frankly, I do not want a bra to get me a man, I just want it to fit properly and look good. I want interesting colours and and a nice cut that works with my clothes. As you may know already, I’m a fan of triangle bras, as they look modern and cool and are usually more comfortable than other options. Wearing soft triangle bras to the office or other more formal occasions can be a bit tricky, though: without mentioning any names, I have it on good authority that there are people who suffer from the syndrome I call Nipples of Steel. That, soft bras and conservative settings do not mix well.

This brings me to the subject of today. Despite the name, Love Stories actually produces nice underwear that isn’t excessively romantic. There is a little lace and maybe an occasional bow, but overall the aesthetic is quite restrained, a bit mix-and-match. That alone wouldn’t be too special – in this price bracket (what one could call The Pretty Expensive price bracket) there are other brands that do really nice things. But there is one type of bra they’ve done that I’ve seen nobody else offering so far.

Love stories has taken the classic triangle bra and added a thin pad to the cup.* This will not add much volume (although it does add a bit), but it does cover the… erm, I think I called it “the natural shape of the breast” the last time. This in turn means one can wear a triangle bra without the nipple issue. I find that in some situations, this can be extremely helpful: for example when I’m wearing a slip dress and need a bra underneath, this solves all the problems while also giving me the shape I need.

I understand that this is not a world-altering discovery for most people, but in case you share my underwear profile, it might be helpful. And the brand is worth checking out regardless.**

This looks very pretty and not a brand is was aware of – might have to check it out as somehow I like that sort of bra when I am wearing something more casual. Despite or maybe because of not having much chest I have long been fascinated by the effects of different bras.
I am also aware I owe you a reply on good cocktail places in London. Really there are many but you can’t go far wrong, if going for a sort of hipster but traditional vibe, with the Zetter townhouse in Clerkenwell or in Marylebone (and that is a truly marvellous place to stay with super rooms, very quirky and luxurious and the top room has an outdoor bath in which you can sip champagne while looking at the view over London).
I also personally really like B&H Buildings in Clerkenwell (also near enough the office to pop in during the week briefly and they do some pretty good non-alcoholic stuff) and they (like many) make their own bitters etc which adds a unique flavour. In a similar area Oriole in Smithfield feels like going on a quick Carribean holiday.
For real glamour you would be hard pressed to beat the Beaufort at the Savoy and they do a mean martini. Hackney meanwhile is a wonderland of hipster bars. Hopefully that’s a good start though and apologies for the novel.

I’m very grateful for this novel! And any other you feel like writing. Very much feel like having a cocktail or two in London now, but frankly I need to take a little break from the social life and get my stuff sorted. All this will be carefully filed away for future use, though.

Oh I thought this tied at the back in a bow, disappointed…now that would be excessively romantic. And a massive pain to wear if you fancy leaning back in a chair. But I do like the frothy& impractical side of underwear. The colour-combination here is gorgeous, like something a Victorian woman would use for a dress. Was just reading in UK Vogue about a chartreuse-and-ivory gown from 1897. Need to think of more adventurous colour combinations for spring!

I love the colour combination, too. I predict that this spring is going to be all about ambitious colour combinations! Victoria Beckham has done some really nice ones recently.
